" I don't have any money, but I don't come begging." This was the statement uttered by Hazel Mack to Mr. Butler in 1995, in her quest to obtain land in East Winston, on which to house the Carter G. Woodson School. What started out as a quest wanchors 32+ acres of land owned by Legacy Bridge NC.[1] For close to thirty years, this school has honored and served over 10,000 East Winston children and their families. Today, As I work with Legacy Bridge NC[1] to advance a more communal vision that launched a thousand journeys in the spatial and environmental justice movement for the East Winston community.
